Proud Family

“You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.” – Ansel Adams

Family has always been very important to me and I believe this can be seen in my approach to documentary wedding photography. As someone who places great value on close relationships in life, I’m often drawn to family members and the subtle interactions between them at weddings. Whether they’re sharing a joke or simply holding hands, I feel these moments are key to each wedding story.

Proud Family Wedding Photograph

This photograph from Rebecca and Hamish’s wedding at Glenarm Castle is a perfect example of my approach. Taken during the ceremony in the castle’s beautiful entrance hall, it shows a wonderful fleeting moment between Rebecca’s mother and grandmother as the vows were being said.

As Rebecca now lives in Australia with Hamish, images of her family were especially important to capture throughout their day. When I saw the two ladies holding hands and smiling proudly towards the couple, I knew it would be a lovely photograph.

It will be as meaningful to the family in 30 years as it is today.
